The same CRS identifier may be used by more than one CRS, as any of 21 NAVAREAs may comprise only 25 different identifiers (from A to Z), which includes International and National NAVTEX. Besides that, the NAVTEX message transmission format doesn't include
a CRS name but only a CRS identifier. That means NAVTEX receivers must have an integrated database that comprises all CRS names, their identifiers and NAVAREA to which they belong for each frequency separately. Each received message is usually connected
by an entry from the database based on manual CRS station's setup. That means each CRS identifier should have set up an appropriate CRS name, otherwise the CRS name displayed in a message may be wrong or absent. As CRS stations change from time to time
(some are new and some are closed), the above-mentioned database should be updated manually from time to time.
Setting up CRS names wrongly doesn't affect the main functionality of a NAVTEX receiver.
The Station Name Selection setting allows the user to select between GPS and Manual station selection. To change the setting, navigate to it and press RIGHT/LEFT navigation key.

Practise on the NAVTEX receiver simulator
The Station Setup Pages (available in Setup Mode -> NAVTEX View -> 490 Names Page and Setup Mode -> NAVTEX View -> 518 Names Page) determine the names of stations displayed on station filter pages and in NAVTEX message headers.The Station Name Selection setting allows the user to select between GPS and Manual station selection. - If GPS is selected, the NAVTEX receiver will select the CRS name nearest to the boat's current location, but within the same NAVAREA.
- If Manual is selected, then the user can manually select the CRS name to be displayed for each CRS identifier. Setting up a wrong CRS name (for example Long Beach (Q) from NAVAREA XII instead of Split (Q) from NAVAREA III) will just cause the wrong CRS name to be displayed in received messages from CRS identifier Q. To change the setting of any CRS identifier, navigate to it and press the RIGHT/LEFT navigation key.

The Station Database Setup (available in Setup Mode -> NAVTEX View -> 490 Names Page -> Station Database and Setup Mode -> NAVTEX View -> 518 Names Page -> Station Database) is used to change the database entries of CRSs. The Station
Database Page is divided into two halves. The top half shows a scrolling list of all CRSs in the database. The bottom half shows details of the current CRS selected in the station list.
Editing an existing station entry:
Use the navigation pad to select the station you wish to edit (use RIGHT/LEFT navigation key to jump between station letters in the database). Press the EDIT softkey to edit the station details at the bottom of the display. You may navigate to any data item and after that change it by using the RIGHT/LEFT navigation key. When editing the station name, use the RIGHT/LEFT navigation key to change the letters. Use the NEXT softkey to accept the current letter and move the cursor to the right. Use the BACKSPACE softkey to delete the current letter and move the cursor to the left. When editing the latitude and longitude fields, use the NEXT softkey to select the Degrees, Minutes or Cardinal part of the position. Use the RIGHT/LEFT navigation key to change the selected item. When you have finished entering the data, press the SAVE softkey to save and update the database or use the CANCEL softkey to abort the change.
