The Inmarsat C terminal is capable of receiving messages. These messages can be divided into two groups, EGC messages and selective (only to the terminal addressed) messages. The EGC messages that will be received and will be shown are the messages transmitted via the satellite you're logged in to. The EGC messages will be explained in the MSI chapter.
The EGC messages can be divided into:
The printer connected to the transceiver will always print out the EGC SafetyNET messages. The received selective calls are printed out when this has been programmed in the 'set-up' menu under 'routing'. During the reception of a message with Distress or Urgent priority the transceiver buzzer starts giving an alarm signal and the message terminal window shows: Urgent EGC message received. Press Esc to continue!.
If the printer connected to the transceiver is malfunctioning, off-line or running out of paper, the alarm signal via the buzzer will be heard and a window on the message terminal will show a message e.g.: Printer offline. Press Esc to continue!. All the received EGC messages will be stored in a log file on the floppy disc in the message terminal. Selective messages will only be stored when this option has been selected in the set-up menu under 'routing'.
All the stored messages can be found in the menu bar under 'logs' (transmit log, receive log and EGC log).
Display EGC messages on the screen:
