The Inmarsat C transceiver is a piece of equipment which contains the Transmitter and the Receiver and this one also has a built-in GPS module.
When this GPS module is not installed, you can connect the terminal to an external GPS. Several connections are located on the rear side of the transceiver.

There are two buttons and five indication lights situated on the front of the transceiver.

Explanation of the front panel:
1. Power indication light, lights up when the transceiver is switched on.
2. Stop button, can be used to cancel a transmission.
3. Log in indication light, blinks when the terminal is Logging in.
4. Send indication light, blinks when the transceiver is performing a transmission.
5. Mail indication light, blinks when the transceiver is receiving a message.
6. Distress button placed under a cover; the cover should be lifted before pressing the distress button for a period of 5 seconds, so as to transmit a distress alert.
7. Distress indication light, will indicate the status of the distress alert.

Explanation of the back panel:
1. The antenna connector marked as X2, to connect antenna cable.
2. Fuse holder.
3. DTE (Data Terminal Equipment) connector marked as X3, used for the connection to message terminal or computer.
4. DC input connector marked as X1, the voltage has to be between 10 and 32V DC.
5. I/O connector marked as X4, used for input/output when connecting to other navigation device e.g. external GPS.
6. The power switch marked as S1, to switch on/off the transceiver.
7. Printer connector marked as X5, to connect the "hardcopy" printer for printing of received messages e.g. received EGC MSI messages.
