On pressing the "16" or "CH16" push-button, the VHF radio will switch to VHF CH 16 on Full Power. VHF CH 16 is designated for RT Distress, Urgency, Safety and Routine Calling. Whilst at sea all vessels should maintain continuous watch on VHF CH 16.

Practise on the VHF radio simulator

It is necessary to keep constant watch on VHF CH 16 whilst at sea. Subsequently, a single press 16 key is available for immediate selection of this channel. This will cancel any function currently in operation.
